Rapper YNW Melly, born Jamell Demons, is facing additional legal hurdles as his attorney, Raven Liberty, is under investigation for alleged witness tampering. According to Local 10 News, this development arises as Demons prepares for his retrial on double murder charges in Broward County, Florida.

At a recent hearing in Fort Lauderdale, Demons, dressed in a red jail jumpsuit, appeared in court as the focus shifted to Liberty. She was not present due to a flight delay. As reported by Local 10 News, the Broward Sheriff’s Office is investigating Liberty for alleged witness tampering, though no formal charges have been filed against her. The investigation could raise significant challenges for Demons’ defense strategy, potentially impacting the retrial's trajectory.

Demons’ defense team emphasized the need to understand the scope of the investigation before proceeding. They noted that Demons has not seen Liberty in person for over a year and must decide whether to retain her and the rest of his legal team. The allegations against Liberty, if substantiated, could complicate the rapper’s defense and influence trial proceedings.

As reported, Demons has been incarcerated for nearly six years, accused of murdering childhood friends Chris Thomas and Anthony Williams in 2018 and allegedly staging the crime scene to appear as a drive-by shooting. His first trial ended in a mistrial in 2023.

Another hearing is scheduled to address these matters, and the retrial is set for September. The ongoing legal complications add uncertainty to the case, which has already garnered significant public attention.
