RuPaul’s Drag Race is set to dazzle in its 17th season with a Squid Game-inspired twist in the premiere. The opening sequence, “Squirrel Games,” features a playful take on the intense “Red Light, Green Light” challenge.

In the first ten minutes, 14 competing queens face off against returning Drag Race alums and other queens from across the U.S., battling for a chance to advance. Eliminated contestants are humorously hit with pies before collapsing dramatically to the ground, keeping the fun and chaos alive.

The iconic Lil’ Poundcake puppet, first brought to fame by Alaska Thunderf–k and Lineysha Sparx in season five, makes a memorable appearance alongside members of the pit crew. RuPaul also steps into the action, controlling the game before unveiling a bold, Babadook-inspired look.

Season 17 premieres January 3 at 8 PM ET/PT on MTV, with pop icon Katy Perry joining as the first celebrity guest judge. Fans can also catch the behind-the-scenes drama on RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked immediately after the premiere at 9:30 PM ET/PT.
