RAWALPINDI:

Three Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) Police officials, including a sub-inspector, have been arrested in Rawalpindi for allegedly embezzling a large consignment of drugs and maintaining links with drug smugglers.

The case came to light last month after a murder during a function at a private housing society in Rawalpindi prompted police to raid the accused's camps. A large quantity of drugs was recovered during the operation, and interrogations revealed connections between the suspects and PHP personnel.

In response, CPO Rawalpindi Khalid Hamdani directed a senior-level internal investigation, which confirmed the allegations. Subsequently, Gujar Khan police arrested Sub-Inspector Adnan, Constable Mudassir, and Constable Waqas. The accused were implicated in drug trafficking, ties with smugglers, and embezzlement of seized drugs.

According to preliminary findings, the officers intercepted a large drug consignment but only registered a case for a portion of it, embezzling the rest. They have been remanded into custody for five days to allow for further investigation, which is expected to uncover additional details.

Authorities condemned the misuse of official positions to aid criminal activities and recommended strict departmental action against the accused to set a strong precedent.
