A counter-terrorism court in Karachi has sent 19 individuals arrested during a demonstration at Numaish Chowrangi to judicial remand in jail. Among the arrested suspects, four are minors.
The police presented the suspects before the court, including Asghar Shaheedi, Hamid Ali, Zahid Hussain, Syed Abbas, Ahmed Ali, Mohammad Abbas, Ayan, Hanan, Nisar Hussain, Sadiq Ali, Hamza, Sohail Abbas, Zain, Hassan Raza, Sadiq Ali, Ayub, Sadiq, Shayan, and Shakeel.
Investigating officer Iftikhar Ahmed stated that the suspects were involved in firing that injured one police officer, while three others were injured from stones thrown by the protesters. He requested a 14-day physical remand for the suspects.
However, the court rejected the request for physical remand and directed the prosecution to present the case challan. The judge also inquired about the origin of the stones used by the suspects, asking if they were collected in a bag.
In its remarks, the court emphasised that violence against the state would not be tolerated, stating, "Protests for your rights are acceptable, but do not take the law into your own hands. Respect the police, as they are the reason we are all safe."
The court subsequently sent the suspects to jail on judicial remand.
