Lil Durk’s father, Abdul Haqq, better known as Big Durk, recently shared his thoughts on his son’s ongoing legal troubles in a powerful Instagram video.

Haqq, who has personal experience with the justice system, expressed his skepticism about the timing of Lil Durk’s indictment, though he refrained from discussing the specifics of the charges. The video, shared by former 2Pac collaborator Mutah Beale, also served as a public message of gratitude for the support the family has received during this challenging period.

“We would first like to thank everyone for their support, their love,” Haqq began, addressing the fans and supporters who have rallied around the family. “The encouraging words that they gave us as a family. We thank the fans and everyone who stood by us.” Haqq made it clear that legal matters were best left to the attorneys, and the family is focused on the positive energy and support from the community.

Haqq also expressed his concern about the circumstances surrounding his son’s indictment. “It’s mighty strange,” he said. “That once he started doing good out there, once he stayed away from all the gang banging and dissing the dead... when he turned his life around... all of a sudden now he’s being indicted.” Haqq contrasted his son’s recent efforts to embrace religion and advocate for peace with the sudden legal challenges that have arisen.

The timing of the indictment raised further questions for Haqq, particularly in relation to Lil Durk’s recent involvement in efforts to promote peace in Chicago. He pointed out that the charges came just days after Lil Durk participated in a Muslim conference in the city calling for peace.

“Just right off the Muslim conference that we had in Chicago calling for peace,” Haqq said. “Now, three to four days later, he’s being indicted after that.” Haqq also highlighted the rapper’s birthday concert, where Lil Durk held a digital vigil to honor victims of violence in Chicago. “When he put up on his concert, all the people that got killed in Chicago showing that this is not what it’s about... again, he get indicted.”

Haqq urged the public to take a step back and consider the larger implications of the situation. He suggested that individuals who work to bring about positive change are often targeted by the legal system. “Look at what the government trying to do... when you start doing right and telling people to stop doing wrong, then all of a sudden you’re an enemy to them and they have to lock you up,” he concluded.

Having spent 25 years in prison after being sentenced to life for his involvement in a cocaine ring, Haqq is no stranger to the justice system. He has previously revealed that authorities offered him freedom in exchange for becoming an informant against Larry Hoover, co-founder of the Gangsta Disciples. Haqq’s remarks come shortly after Lil Durk’s arrest in October on charges related to a murder-for-hire plot and after his 11-year-old son publicly defended his father’s character.
