The Gulgasht division police in Multan claimed to have apprehended 131 members of 51 criminal gangs during 2024, recovering stolen and looted items worth over Rs40 million, including cars, tractors, motorcycles, gold jewelry, mobile phones and cash.
According to officials, the police also seized a large quantity of drugs, including 39 kilograms of hashish and 7kg of heroin, along with liquor and 71 weapons used in criminal activities.
During the year, Old Kotwali police arrested 19 gang members, recovering stolen goods worth Rs1.48 million, Saddar police detained 26 suspects, recovering valuables worth Rs4 million, while Bahauddin Zakariya police apprehended nine suspects, recovering over Rs1 million worth of stolen goods and seizing firearms.
Budhla Sant police arrested 11 gang members, recovering items worth Rs5.4 million, including stolen vehicles and livestock. Alpa police arrested 10 suspects, recovering valuables worth Rs6.3 million, while Qadirpur Raan police apprehended 30 gang members and seized items valued at Rs7.4 million. Gulgasht police station staff detained 26 suspects and recovered Rs7.4 million worth of stolen goods, including cars.
The officials said the police teams had utilised technology and professional expertise to trace and apprehend the criminals.
An official said the operations to ensure public safety were ongoing. The police returned recovered items to the owners.
Meanwhile, the Child Protection Welfare Bureau (CPWB) in Multan took 590 children into protective custody during the year.
