HYDERABAD:

Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested a suspect demanding extortion money from local doctors by claiming ties to the notorious underworld Don, D-Company.

Police said that Muzaffar Ahmed Sindhu had allegedly demanded large sums of extortion money from doctors through WhatsApp and threatened severe consequences if they refused to pay the money.

The complaints from doctors led Hyderabad police to form a specialized team which apprehended suspect Sindhu in a short time by using modern technology.

Police said accused Sindhu had confessed that he had been jobless for months after years in the medicine business. According to the police, the accused used his knowledge of the medical community to target doctors, creating a fake WhatsApp account with the help of a woman's phone number to send threats.

Police have registered cases against Sindhu at Qasimabad, Cantonment, and Hatri police stations. Further investigation was underway, the police said.
