The issue of registration for religious schools has been addressed as President Asif Ali Zardari has signed the Societies Registration Act 2024.

With the President’s signature, the bill has become law, and the National Assembly will soon issue the Gazette notification for the Societies Registration Act, Express News reported.

Under this law, the registration of religious schools will follow the Societies Registration Act.

Yesterday, President Asif Ali Zardari assured the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) delegation, led by Maulana Rashid Mehmood Somro, that the concerns of Maulana Fazlur Rehman regarding the religious schools registration bill would be addressed, and the issue would be resolved promptly.

The meeting, held at the New Dero House in Larkana, also included discussions on law and order in Sindh, national and regional political situations.

The delegation, along with JUI-F Sindh Secretary General Allama Rashid Mehmood Somro, also expressed concerns about the worsening security situation in Sindh and urged the protection of people's lives and property.

President Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari assured that the religious schools registration issue would be resolved as promised. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari directed the Sindh government and police to take immediate steps to restore law and order.

The delegation also congratulated President Zardari on the conviction of Dr. Khalid Mahmood Somro's killers and commended the role of Sindh Police in the investigation.

Earlier the federal cabinet approved on Friday amendments in the Societies Registration Act of 1860, deciding that the act will first be passed as it is and then the president will issue an ordinance amending the act, allowing madrassas to register themselves either under societies registration or education ministry.

The cabinet approved amendments to the madrassas' registration process based on recommendations from the Ministry of Law and Justice, resolving a dispute between the PML-N government and the opposition party JUI-F over a bill recently passed by Parliament but returned by President Asif Ali Zardari.
