Fire breaks out in Ghariali Building

The fire was brought under control in about one and a half hours.

The fire in the Ghariali Building in Sadar was brought under control and five people were evacuated safely. KMC's 5 fire tenders, one bowser and one snorkel as well as two rescue teams took part in the firefighting operation.

There was no loss of life in the fire incident. Chief Fire Officer KMC Humayun Khan said that KMC Fire Brigade received the report of fire on the third floor of Ghariali Building near Empress Market, on which a fire engine from Saddar Fire Station rushed to the spot. Firefighters started extinguishing the fire, but the fire spread to the third floor and engulfed parts of the fourth and fifth floors. Flames were rising from the affected areas.

On this situation, four fire tenders, one bowser and one snorkel were called which reached the affected place and with the help of snorkel the fire extinguishing process was accelerated. He said that on the information of the fire, the rescue teams of KMC and other organisations also reached the spot. The KMC rescue team safely pulled out five people from the affected part of the building.

He said the fire was brought under control in about one and a half hours. After that, the cooling process was completed.

Humayun said that there are warehouses of garments in the affected parts of this building. There is no estimate of how much damage has been caused by the fire. The cause of the fire is also not known.

He said that fire incidents increase in winter, but KMC fire brigade is rendering services actively. A number of ambulances of the rescue agencies, police and rangers also reached the spot while one track of the in front of the Empress Market was closed for traffic.

Meanwhile, a fire, which broke out in a saw mill in Manzoor Colony, was brought under control by the fire brigade teams.
