The city experienced its coldest night of the current winter season on Saturday as the minimum temperature was recorded at 8.5 degrees Celsius, down two degrees from the previous day.
Due to the icy winds from Tharparkar in rural Sindh and Balochistan's northeast, a cold wave has persisted in the city.
According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the minimum temperature was recorded at 8.5 degrees Celsius at the city's central weather station, which compiles official data, while the temperature dropped to 6.5 degrees in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
As per the data from other weather stations, minimum temperature was eight degrees at Jinnah Terminal, 8.5 degrees at Sharea Faisal, nine degrees at Mauripur, and 9.7 degrees at Bin Qasim.
According to PMD, previous record of coldest day remains unbroken. On December 14, 1986, the city's minimum temperature was recorded at 1.3 degrees Celsius. On Saturday, the wind speed in the city was recorded at 20kmph.
The weather in Karachi will remain cold and dry during the next few days, while the real feel of cold may be felt as 2 to 4 degrees lower than the actual temperature due to icy winds.
Minimum mercury is expected to be in the single digit of 8 degrees while the maximum temperature is expected to be 25 degrees Celsius.
A severe cold wave continues to persist across the province. Night temperatures may be recorded 3 to 5 degrees lower in various districts, while fog is likely to occur in the upper and central districts in the morning.
