KARACHI:

Rising incidents of gun violence and street crime has triggered fear and panic in Malir as police appear to be helpless to maintain law and order in the district. The situation was further exasperated by the latest incidents of fatal shooting and brazen robbery.

In the first incident, four armed robbers, riding two motorcycles, opened fire after facing resistance during a robbery at a supermarket in Sector 17A. A security guard named Mushtaq and the cashier, Amjad, were injured in the attack. The robbers also snatched the weapon of the guard before fleeing the scene, leaving the market in a state of fear. Both injured victims were rushed to JPMC.

In the second incident, 55-year-old cattle trader Sarfaraz was fatally shot at the doorstep of his home in Sector 16B. Unidentified assailant, described as a bearded man, fired several shots and escaped on a motorcycle. Sarfaraz was rushed to JPMC where he expired during treatment.

While speaking to the media at JPMC, Waqar, the victim's son, said that he heard gunshots and rushed outside, only to find his father injured and the shooter fleeing the scene. Waqar noted down the motorcycle's licence plate number and provided it to police. He said that his family has no enmity and appealed to authorities for justice and arrest of the perpetrator.

Sarfaraz, a buffalo trader originally from Kashmore district, leaves behind a grieving family, including his wife, five daughters, and three sons. Police speculated that a personal grudge could be a possible motive behind Sarfaraz's murder. Police launched an investigation and are working to obtain CCTV footage from the area to identify the assailant.
