A slimmer Elon Musk revealed on Wednesday that he uses Mounjaro, a weight-loss drug, after previously advocating for similar medications as a way to address America’s obesity crisis.
The billionaire CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and X shared this in a social media post that included a photo of himself dressed as Santa Claus, complete with a white beard and red suit.
Musk referred to himself as “Ozempic Santa” in the post, adding, “Like Cocaine Bear, but Santa and Ozempic!”
“Technically, Mounjaro, but that doesn’t have the same ring to it,” he clarified.
Mounjaro, like Ozempic, belongs to a category of drugs known as GLP-1 inhibitors, designed to help people with diabetes manage blood sugar and insulin levels.
Recently, however, GLP-1 inhibitors have been increasingly used by Americans for effective weight loss.
Musk, 53, explained that he prefers Mounjaro over Ozempic because taking “high doses” of the latter caused him to “fart & burp like Barney from the Simpson’s.”
“Mounjaro seems to have fewer side effects and be more effective,” added Musk, who is set to lead President-elect Donald Trump’s Department of Governmental Efficiency.
Musk has consistently supported the widespread adoption of GLP-1 inhibitors to fight obesity, a viewpoint that conflicts with the position of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the incoming Health and Human Services Secretary.
Kennedy, 70, has argued that encouraging healthier eating habits would be a more cost-effective solution to the obesity epidemic.
Musk’s stance on GLP-1 inhibitors has earned him approval from the liberal hosts of “The View,” including Whoopi Goldberg, who has also admitted to using Mounjaro.
“Elon’s right on this!” Goldberg said earlier this month during a segment discussing the differing opinions of Musk and the incoming HHS secretary.
The 69-year-old entertainer later showcased her slimmer figure, revealing that she had weighed nearly 300 pounds two years ago before starting Mounjaro.
Musk, who has openly stated that he dislikes exercise, previously disclosed in 2022 that he had used Wegovy, another GLP-1 inhibitor.
