LAHORE:

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q) have decided to field a joint candidate in the PP-220 by-election. Party officials announced their decision during a press conference in Lahore on Tuesday, however, the name of the consensus candidate is yet to be confirmed by both parties.

The PP-220 post fell vacant after the disqualification of PML-Q’s MPA Pir Walayat Shah Khagha from the court. PPP Punjab president Imtiaz Safdar Waraich and General Secretary Sami Ullah Khan recently called on Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, the senior central leader of the PML-Q and senior federal minister, at the State Guest House to discuss the overall political climate of the province.

The Sahiwal seat for the Punjab assembly seat was won by a PML candidate in the 2008 general election but the winning candidate has now joined the unification bloc which supported the PML-N. Warraich told reporters that the Punjab government ha completely failed to control the dengue fever in the province and that it was time for new people to come into power.
