Netflix’s coverage of the NFL Christmas games had a rough start.
The issues began during Wednesday’s pregame show when announcer Kay Adams' microphone malfunctioned for the first 10 seconds of the live broadcast. A few minutes later, analyst Mina Kimes was unexpectedly interrupted by Netflix’s own advertisement for Squid Game season 2. The pregame show eventually resumed without further glitches.
Many NFL fans had concerns about potential technical issues during Netflix's first NFL live broadcast, especially after encountering buffering problems during the Jake Paul versus Mike Tyson fight last month. However, viewers of the Christmas game broadcasts did not report any major buffering issues.
Netflix’s first live NFL broadcast will officially begin when defending champs Kansas City Chiefs face the Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh at 1 PM EST, followed by the Baltimore Ravens versus Houston Texans at 4:30 PM EST, with Beyoncé performing at halftime.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Netflix spent $150 million to broadcast these two live events. The deal also includes the streaming giant broadcasting at least one NFL Christmas game in each of the next two seasons.
