ISLAMABAD:

The Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC)—a party comprising PTI backed lawmakers— has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the 26th Constitutional Amendment.

The direct appeal submitted to the court contends that the 26th Amendment of 2024 is unconstitutional, unlawful, and impractical. It argues that the amendment undermines key features and fundamental values of the Constitution, compromises the independence of the judiciary, affects fundamental rights, and disrupts the separation of powers. The petition states that the amendment attempts to alter, repeal, or nullify essential features of the Constitution.
