British politician Jeremy Corbyn has voiced deep concern over the ongoing detention of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan. Corbyn called for the release of all political prisoners worldwide, condemning Khan’s treatment as an affront to democratic rights.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Corbyn stated, "I remain deeply concerned about the ongoing detention of Imran Khan. His disgraceful treatment is an affront to the democratic rights of the people of Pakistan." He urged continued advocacy for the release of political prisoners everywhere.
The calls for Khan’s release have come from various international figures, including Richard Grenell, former US President Donald Trump’s nominee for special envoy, and former Congressman Matt Gaetz.
In October, over 60 Democratic US lawmakers urged President Joe Biden to pressure Pakistan to release Khan. A UN human rights working group has also stated that Khan’s detention violates international law.
