RAWALPINDI:

The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has begun technical pre-qualification of contractors by issuing tenders worth Rs412.5 million for water supply and sewage schemes in 14 union councils (UCs) of the city.

One of the projects, for which the technical pre-qualification process has been initiated, is Rs52.5m worth of water supply scheme under which installation of four new tube wells and maintenance and installation of water supply lines will be done for UCs 1-12, UC 36, and UC 41.

Similarly, a large sewerage scheme worth Rs360m in the above-mentioned UCs is under construction phase. A sewerage system development scheme is being initiated for Mangtal, Dhok Hassu and other adjoining densely populated areas, which has been a long-standing problem in these areas.

The process of technical pre-qualification of contractors has also been started for this scheme. Contracts will be awarded to those who qualify in the technical pre-qualification.

WASA Managing Director Muhammad Saleem Ashraf says the water supply and sewerage schemes will be completed in time so that the long-standing problems of drinking water and sewage in these densely populated areas can be solved.

The work will be monitored after contracts are awarded by WASA teams, he adds.
