Lawyers' leaders filed a petition in the Supreme Court on Friday to nullify the 26th Constitutional Amendment.
The petitioners, Hamid Khan, Amanullah Kunrani, Abid Hasan Manto, Ali Ahmed Kurd, Akram Sheikh, Qazi Muhammad Anwar, Munir A Malik and Abid Zuberi, filed the petition through their counsels, Sardar Latif Khosa and Barrister Salah Uddin.
The petitioners requested the apex court to suspend all the steps taken under the 26th Amendment till conclusion of the case. They submitted that the 26th Amendment was in contrast to the independence of the judiciary and was also against the devolution of power principle.
