A polio vaccination team was attacked by a family in Karachi's Korangi area after they insisted on administering polio drops to the children, Express News reported.
The incident took place near the Rangers Ground in the neighborhood. The team, which was accompanied by two police officers, had arrived at a residence where the family had previously refused to allow their children to receive the polio vaccine.
Following the insistence of the vaccination team, the family reportedly launched an attack on the workers.
When the polio workers persisted, the family reacted violently, physically assaulting the team. Police officers’ uniforms were torn, and they were slapped, while their mobile phones were seized.
Upon receiving reports, a heavy police force arrived at the scene, only to face further resistance as family members threw stones at the officers.
The police swiftly took control of the situation, arresting six individuals, including four women and two young boys, and brought them to the Korangi police station.
The arrested individuals were identified as Samina, Mehjabin, Amna, Iqra, and Gul Imran and Sufyan. A case is being filed against the family members in the government’s name.
Korangi SHO Malik Amir confirmed the details to Express News. He added that two female polio workers, Rabia and Saba, as well as Dr. Khalid, and police constables from the team, including Israr, Jahangir, and Toufeeq, were all attacked. Lady constable Aneesa Naz also sustained injuries in the incident.
