Dr Shahnawaz Kumbhar's autopsy reveals torture
A post-mortem examination of Dr Shahnawaz Kumbhar, a blasphemy accused allegedly killed in custody in Mirpurkhas, has revealed that four of his ribs were broken while he was still alive.
This shocking revelation comes from a team of doctors who conducted the autopsy, as stated in their testimony recorded by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
The agency also took on record the version of an official of a private company providing tracking services for the vehicles of the Sindh police to ascertain the locations of the police vehicles which participated in the alleged encounter in which the police claimed to have killed Kumbhar.
The statements of Prof Dr Waheed Ali Nahiyo, Associate Prof Dr Abdul Samad, Assistant Prof Dr Abdul Raheel Khan and the Police Surgeon Dr Muhammad Waseem Khan have been recorded in connection with a FIA conducted probe.
The post-mortem examination revealed that five of Dr Kumbhar's ribs were broken, with four of the fractures occurring while he was still alive.
This disturbing finding suggests that Dr Kumbhar was subjected to torture by the Mirpurkhas police.
