Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi shared one of her biggest regrets in a recent episode of Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Wiser Than Me podcast, revealing her wish to have hosted Saturday Night Live.

Despite having been a recurring character on the show, Pelosi told Louis-Dreyfus, “One of my regrets is that I never hosted Saturday Night Live. I’m really funny.”

Louis-Dreyfus encouraged Pelosi to pursue the opportunity, offering to help her prepare. However, the 84-year-old former Speaker dismissed the idea, stating, “It’s over. It’s too late. I’ve crossed the bridge.” Pelosi noted the age of the oldest host, Betty White, who was 88 when she appeared on SNL in 2010, but remained firm in her decision.

Throughout her career, Pelosi has been portrayed by several SNL cast members, including Amy Poehler, Kristen Wiig, and Kate McKinnon. Even Cameron Diaz impersonated Pelosi during her 2005 hosting gig. Still, Pelosi said she has no interest in adding SNL to her bucket list.

Elsewhere in the interview, recorded prior to Pelosi’s hip injury in Germany, she addressed the growing vitriol in American politics, attributing much of it to Republican obstruction. “We’re not in gridlock; we’re in obstruction,” Pelosi said, noting the personal attacks she has endured, including being depicted as a devil in various images.

Pelosi also discussed the violent attack on her husband, Paul Pelosi, during a home invasion by an individual influenced by far-right propaganda. “The sanctity of our home [was] violated,” she said, adding that public figures like Elon Musk and others made light of the incident, highlighting the lack of shared values in today’s political climate.
