The family of a woman who mysteriously died at a private hospital in the Gulshan-e-Maymar area of Karachi's Site Superhighway industrial area has accused her husband and in-laws of beating her to death before taking her body to the hospital.

According to reports, 22-year-old Asma, wife of Tanveer, passed away under suspicious circumstances in the early hours of December 16, 2024, while being treated at the private hospital.

Asma, who was the mother of a 7-month-old child, had been admitted after suffering from severe injuries.

Her family has claimed that Asma was subjected to physical abuse by her husband and in-laws, which led to her death.

Asma’s brother, Arbab, shared that on December 15, he had received a phone call from his sister, during which she expressed her desire to leave her husband due to ongoing abuse.

She had asked her father to come and take her home, but he was at work at the time.

Arbab further stated that after speaking with his sister in the evening, she again mentioned being beaten by her husband. However, he did not take the matter seriously as similar incidents had occurred before.

Later that night, around 10:30 PM, Asma’s husband, Tanveer, called and informed Arbab that his sister was on a ventilator and in critical condition.

Upon arriving at the hospital, Arbab was told that Asma was on the ventilator, but when he reached the upper floor, he found her dead.

Hospital staff told Arbab that his sister had been brought to the hospital already dead. Tanveer allegedly offered to pay the hospital staff to keep her body on the ventilator, but they refused.

Asma’s brother insisted that his sister had no health issues and had been in good health. He accused her husband and in-laws of causing her death through abuse.

Asma’s sister, Arifa, also confirmed that her sister had frequently called her to report the abuse she suffered from her husband. She added that Asma had planned to divorce her husband due to the mistreatment.

Arifa further stated that her sister was not killed by one person alone but by the entire family, and she demanded justice from the police. She also mentioned that the body of her sister remained in the morgue and that the police had not yet released it to the family.

On the other hand, SHO Khalid Abbasi claimed that the post-mortem revealed no signs of physical abuse or poisoning.

He stated that if the family wanted to file a case, they should come to the police station, and a case would be registered.
