Bluey, the beloved puppy from the Bafta-winning children's TV series, will make her cinematic debut in 2027. The film, set to arrive in cinemas before streaming on Disney+, ABC iView, and ABC Kids in Australia, marks a major milestone for the hit show.
BBC Studios, the BBC's commercial arm, has partnered with Disney for the highly anticipated project. Bluey, a blue heeler dog, lives with her mum, dad, and little sister, Bingo. The show turns everyday events into exciting adventures for young viewers.
Joe Brumm, the show's creator, expressed his excitement, saying, "I've always thought Bluey deserved a theatrical movie. I want this to be an experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together."
The series, co-commissioned by ABC and BBC Studios in 2017, is produced by Australian company Ludo Studios. The show, which features a blue heeler dog breed, is now available in more than 140 countries and is the top programme on CBeebies and Disney+ in the UK. It was also named this year’s most-watched series globally on Disney+, according to Nielsen Media Research.
In addition to its widespread popularity, the show has won multiple awards, including Television Critics Association Awards in 2023 and 2024, and a Peabody Award this year. Over the past year, it has been streamed for more than 20 billion minutes on Disney+ in the US, placing it in the top 10 of the country’s most-viewed streaming programmes.
The film will feature voice actors from the TV series, including Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack, who will reprise their roles as Bluey's parents, Chilli and Bandit Heeler. Joff Bush, the show's composer, will also return to create the music for the film.
