Shaheen Afridi, Pakistan's dynamic left-arm fast bowler, is on the brink of surpassing Wasim Akram’s record for the most wickets taken by a Pakistani bowler against South Africa in international cricket.

As the first ODI of the three-match series between Pakistan and South Africa gets underway at Boland Park, Paarl today, Afridi needs just four more wickets to break Akram’s long-standing record of 48 wickets in 31 innings.

Afridi, who has already claimed 45 wickets in 25 innings against South Africa, has the opportunity to make history in today’s game.

With his impressive form in ODIs, Afridi is expected to play a vital role for Pakistan, who are looking to bounce back after a tough T20I series loss to South Africa.

The list of Pakistan's most successful bowlers against South Africa features Waqar Younis at the top with 82 wickets in 43 innings, followed by Saeed Ajmal with 65 wickets in 36 innings.

Akram and Shoaib Akhtar are next on the list, with Afridi close behind, aiming to break into the top three.
