One police officer was martyred and two polio workers were injured in attacks on vaccination teams in Karak and Bannu. In Lakki Marwat, equipment was snatched from the vaccination team, but the workers were left unharmed.
In the Shakarkhel area of Karak, unidentified armed assailants opened fire on a polio team, resulting in the on-the-spot martyrdom of police officer named Irfan. A polio worker, Asad, son of Habib, a resident of Gurguri, was injured in the incident.
Karak District Police Officer (DPO) Khan Khail arrived at the scene. A heavy contingent of police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to track down the attackers. The incident created an atmosphere of fear and panic in the area, while the police continued investigations and search operations to apprehend the culprits.
Following the incident, the Kohat commissioner, accompanied by Karak DC Shakeel Ahmed Jan, immediately visited Banda Daud Shah tehsil and inquired about the condition of the injured polio worker.
He was transferred to the District Headquarters Hospital Kohat under the supervision of the commissioner.
In another incident in Bannu district, within the jurisdiction of Saddar Police Station, polio worker Hayatullah was injured in a shooting and was promptly shifted to the hospital. Initial investigations suggest the incident resulted from an old enmity.
Meanwhile, in Lakki Marwat's Sar Kati Machankhel area, unidentified armed individuals attacked a polio team, seizing all the equipment from vaccinator Jameelur Rehman and community mobiliser Saddam. However, the attackers left the team members unharmed.
Police have launched efforts to apprehend the suspects involved in all incidents.
