The Walton family, owners of the US retail giant Walmart, have once again topped Bloomberg’s annual ranking of the world’s wealthiest families with a combined fortune of $432.4 billion.

According to Bloomberg, the Abu Dhabi-based House of Nahyan, rulers of the UAE, took second place with a wealth of $323.9 billion, while the Al Thani family of Qatar, who hold the country’s royal title, secured third with $172.9 billion.

The Waltons, whose wealth has grown exponentially since the first Walmart opened over six decades ago, saw a remarkable surge in their fortune, driven by a significant 80% increase in Walmart’s stock value as of December 10.

The family’s wealth grew by $172.7 billion over the last year, which translates to $473.2 million per day, or $328,577 per minute.

The House of Nahyan has presided over Abu Dhabi, the UAE’s capital, for decades, with the country’s vast oil reserves fuelling the royal family’s wealth.

The Al Thani family of Qatar has similarly capitalised on oil and gas fields, transforming Qatar’s economy and securing their place among the world’s wealthiest dynasties.

In fourth place, the Hermès family, owners of the French luxury brand, now valued at $170.6 billion, has remained a force in global fashion under the stewardship of six generations of the Dumas family. The brand’s iconic Kelly and Birkin bags are among the most coveted luxury items in the world.

The Mars family, known for confectionary brands such as M&M’s and Snickers, placed seventh with a wealth of $133.8 billion, while the Ambani family of India, headed by Mukesh Ambani, ranked eighth with $99.6 billion.

Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries controls the world’s largest oil refining complex and remains a major player in the global economy.
