KARACHI:

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is set to roll out the Faceless Customs Assessment (FCA) system in Karachi on Sunday, which is a crucial element of the FBR's transformation plan approved by the prime minister.

Under the system, all import goods declarations filed after 12am at the Appraisement Collectorates of Karachi will be allocated to the Central Appraising Unit (CAU) for assessment. The unit has been established at the South Asia Pakistan Terminal Karachi a few days ago.

The introduction of FCA is expected to bring a significant change to the overall culture and working of the Customs department. It will facilitate trade by reducing the clearance time and will also induce efficiency and transparency in assessments.

After successful completion of the first phase in Karachi, the system will soon be rolled out at the upcountry ports and border stations and the appraisement function of Customs will be relocated outside of the Customs Collectorates.
