Punjab Police has neutralised 72 dacoits, injured 45 and arrested 164 in a series of intelligence-based operations in the Katcha region so far.
Inspector General (IG) Punjab, Dr Usman Anwar, praised the courage and sacrifices of the police force during his visit to advanced police camps in the area on Saturday.
Accompanied by senior officers, including Additional IG Counter-Terrorism Department Wasim Ahmed Sial, RPO Bahawalpur Rai Babar Saeed, and DPO Rahim Yar Khan Rizwan Umar Gondal, Dr Anwar commended the personnel operating in this challenging terrain.
"The Punjab Police has achieved remarkable success in restoring peace to the Katcha region," Dr Anwar said.
"These operations have led to the elimination of 72 dacoits, while 45 others were injured and 164 arrested."
The operations, however, have come at a heavy cost. Nineteen police personnel were martyred in encounters with dacoits, while 29 others sustained severe injuries and have been declared Ghazis.
To ensure sustained peace in the region, the Punjab Police has established a permanent presence.
Fortified police camps, supported by the provincial government, are under construction to bolster security measures.
