Icy Siberian winds chill city dwellers

Wind factor adds to cold intensity though the minimum temperature was recorded at 12.4 degrees Centigrade on Friday.

KARACHI:

The city experienced stronger than usual winds on Friday, with icy gales from Balochistan clocking 36 kilometers per hour, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said on Friday.

The weather remained dry and cold throughout the day due to northeasterly winds from Balochistan, which are likely to persist on Saturday.

Strong winds from the northeast that started their journey from the icy planes of Siberia travelled through the Central Asia to reach Afghanistan and then bring chilly weather to Quetta and from their they started to relax and finally reached Karachi on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

The last whiff of the Siberian wind, known in Karachi as Quetta Wind was enough to send the metros dwellers rushing to buy warm clothes.

The wind factor added to the intensity of the cold though the minimum temperature was recorded at 12.4 degrees Centigrade on Friday morning.

The maximum temperature of the city was recorded at 25.4 degrees Celsius, a slight decrease of 0.6 degrees compared to the previous day. The dry and cold winds continued throughout the day.

The lowest temperature in Sindh was recorded in Tando Jam at 2.5 degrees.
