Prime Minister’s Adviser and senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader, Rana Sanaullah, addressed the ongoing discussions regarding General (retd) Faiz Hameed and the possibility of legal action against him. He said that the extent of any action against Gen Hameed would depend on the available evidence.
He highlighted that the recent press release by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) did not mention prosecuting the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, but instead referred to political elements allegedly linked to PTI.
Sanaullah clarified that while Gen Hameed's involvement in the May 9 riots was under investigation, the ISPR's statement did not implicate Khan directly. He confirmed, however, that there were reports indicating Hameed's connections with certain political elements that were involved in the unrest.
Discussing the May 9 incidents, including the storming of military properties and burning of army houses, Sanaullah questioned why military courts had not prosecuted those responsible. He pointed out that under military law, cases are decided within 30 days, after which they can be appealed in the High Court.
He also addressed concerns regarding military discipline, arguing that disciplinary actions should be taken against those involved, regardless of their affiliation.
