Paul Mescal is reportedly set to play Paul McCartney in Sam Mendes' much-anticipated Beatles biopic series for Sony Pictures. The project, announced earlier this year, consists of four films, each focusing on a different member of the legendary band. Mendes, who will direct, is producing through his Neal Street Productions.
Speculation about Mescal's role emerged during a conversation between Ridley Scott and Christopher Nolan at the Directors Guild of America. Scott hinted that Mescal was committed to Mendes' Beatles project, potentially creating scheduling conflicts with their planned collaboration, The Dog Stars.
The ensemble cast includes Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Charlie Rowe as George Harrison, although these roles remain unconfirmed. Ringo Starr himself added intrigue by commenting that Keoghan was preparing for the role with drum lessons.
The biopic series aims to explore each band member's life and legacy, offering fans an intimate look at the Fab Four. This ambitious undertaking comes as Mescal balances other major projects, including Hamnet and The History of Sound, both set for release in 2025.
Mendes' Beatles project has garnered significant attention due to its unique format and high-profile casting. The series will be released theatrically, providing a fresh perspective on one of the most iconic musical groups in history.
