Donald Trump is scheduled to ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday, coinciding with his anticipated recognition as Time magazine's "Person of the Year," as reported by two sources familiar with the decision.

A representative from Time declined to provide any comments regarding the selection.

The Republican president-elect, who amassed his wealth as a real estate investor in New York before entering politics, has often gauged his success by the performance of the stock market, which has responded positively to his re-election.

The bell-ringing ceremony marks the beginning or end of the trading day at the largest stock exchange globally and is regarded as a prestigious honor.

Traditionally, this event is reserved for company leaders celebrating significant corporate achievements, although it has also been performed by notable figures such as Ronald Reagan, Nelson Mandela, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Politico was the first to report on Trump's upcoming recognition and plans. Trump previously received the "Person of the Year" title from Time in 2016. In 2020, the title was awarded to Democratic President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris after their victory over Trump, while pop star Taylor Swift was honored last year.

Donald Trump, a prominent figure in American business and politics, first gained national attention as a real estate mogul and television personality before entering the political arena.

Born on June 14, 1946, in Queens, New York City, he took over his family's real estate business and expanded it into a global brand, known for luxury properties and developments.

Trump's tenure as the 45th President of the United States from 2017 to 2021 was marked by significant policy changes, including tax reforms, deregulation, and a focus on America-first trade policies.

His presidency was also characterised by a polarising political climate and a strong connection with his base, which he continues to maintain. Following his time in office, Trump has remained a central figure in the Republican Party and continues to influence American politics and public discourse.
