Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Shehla Raza has claimed that former Director-General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed, had contacted President Asif Ali Zardari with a proposal to appoint new army chief.

Speaking to a private news channel on Wednesday, Raza stated that Hameed and Zardari had allegedly discussed long-term political strategies, including the appointment of an army chief.

“It was said that Faiz Hameed, in collaboration with others, had planned for prolonged governance,” Raza claimed, adding that Hameed had even approached Zardari to discuss the army chief’s appointment.

Raza also addressed the current political climate, stating that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party had backpedalled on its concerns about the 26th Constitutional Amendment. She criticised PTI for its stance on these issues, especially after initially expressing reservations about constitutional changes.

The PPP leader also raised concerns over the lack of action on the Council of Common Interests (CCI), noting that while there should have been three meetings, none had been convened.

"We are being ignored on key issues, such as the extraction of water from the River Sindh,” Raza said, voicing her party’s discontent over the central government’s approach to provincial concerns.

Shehla Raza concluded by pointing out that PPP's proposals for a parliamentary committee were in line with addressing the issues faced by the people, particularly those injured in political protests, urging PTI to provide the names of those affected.
