Prominent Twitch streamer Asmongold has weighed in on the ongoing drama between Grace Van Dien and FaZe Clan following her speech at the 2024 Streamer Awards.
During the ceremony, Van Dien, best known for her role as Chrissy Cunningham in Stranger Things, took jabs at FaZe Clan, where she was briefly a member in 2023.
In her speech, Van Dien quipped about her exclusion from FaZe, saying, “I am hard-stuck Bronze in every game I play, that’s why I was never accepted into FaZe, right guys?” Her remarks reignited tension with FaZe members, including co-founder Ricky Banks, who responded online with harsh insults, calling her a “slam pig” and a “f*cking cornball.”
Asmongold, known for his outspoken commentary, backed FaZe Clan’s response, labeling Van Dien a “diversity hire” aimed at improving the organization’s public image. “I am so glad FaZe is back to doing what they do best: being toxic gamer bros,” he said. Asmongold argued that Van Dien’s actions invited the backlash. “If you’re being hostile and rude, people should be able to respond in kind,” he said, defending FaZe members’ criticisms.
Van Dien, who deactivated her X (formerly Twitter) account after the backlash, had previously faced similar toxicity within FaZe Clan. Asmongold previously defended her decision to speak out against FaZe Rain, who had earlier insulted her. However, he also criticized her initial decision to join FaZe, calling it a “mistake” due to the group’s notorious culture.
The controversy continues as Van Dien retreats from social media, and FaZe Clan doubles down on their stance, keeping the gaming community abuzz with heated discussions.
