Traffic accidents in different areas of the city claimed three lives including that of a woman and her infant child.
According to police, a motorcyclist was killed after being hit by an unknown vehicle near Gulistan-e-Johar, within the jurisdiction of Sharea Faisal police station. The body of the deceased was shifted to Jinnah Hospital. The deceased was identified as 45-year-old Naveed.
A woman and an infant riding a motorcyclist died when a trailer hit them near Gulbai in Site B area, while one person was injured. The deceased woman, child and the injured man were transported to Civil Hospital. The deceased woman was identified as 35-year-old Shabana, wife of Rahim Khan, and the infant as one-year-old Zohan. The injured person, as 35-year-old Rahim Khan, is the husband of the deceased woman.
They victims were the residents of Metroville. Driver of the trailer responsible for the accident managed to escape from the scene as usual. The police impounded the trailer. The search for the driver and the owner of the trailer is ongoing.
It is noteworthy that the Additional IG Karachi, DIG Traffic, and other police officers recently imposed a ban on heavy traffic movement in the city before 11pm. However, citizens claim that water tankers, trailers, and trucks are operational round-the-clock all over the city, crushing motorcyclists, pedestrians and other people of smaller vehicles.
Sources said that it is very often, that the driver responsible for such accidents flees the scene, and hours later, the vehicle owner presents another driver to the police. Most of the vehicle drivers responsible for such incidents in the city either do not have licences, or if they do, they are fake, which is why they are allegedly forced by the vehicle owners to flee the scene after the accident so that later any licensed driver is presented by paying bribe at the police station and the next day the driver is granted bail by the court.
In such cases, driver and the traffic police are equally responsible for tragedies.
