A former chairman of a union council (UC) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) member, Amanullah Afridi, was shot dead by unknown assailants in Karachi's Baldia Town on Tuesday.

The 65-year-old was targeted while leaving a mosque after offering Fajr prayer, according to local police.

Afridi, who had also contested the recent local government elections from UC-5 in Abidabad, was attacked near Baldia No 7.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident, and a crime scene unit was called to collect evidence. No arrests have been made at this stage.

In a separate incident, a man named Fazal Zaman was shot dead in Karachi's North Nazimabad area.

Police officials found a letter from the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) in his car, leading them to believe the victim was involved in the real estate business. SSP Zeeshan Shafiq noted that the documents suggest the killing might be related to personal enmity.
