McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania, is facing a wave of negative attention after the arrest of Luigi Mangione, the alleged killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

The fast-food chain's locations are now overwhelmed with 1-star reviews, as customers vent their frustration and make wild claims about the restaurant's conditions.

Mangione, accused of fatally shooting Thompson, was arrested at a McDonald's location after an employee alerted police.

Following the arrest, McDonald’s branches in Altoona, Pennsylvania, as well as Altoona, Iowa, have been flooded with scathing reviews from disgruntled patrons.

Many of the reviews focus on complaints about unsanitary conditions at the restaurants, including allegations of rats in the kitchens.

"‘Heard the place is rat infested and that the owner doesn't care about the health of his employees,’" wrote Carl Reagle in his Google review of the McDonald's at 1500 9th Ave. Station Mall in Altoona, PA.

Others had similar complaints, with one reviewer calling the location "More like Narc-donalds... I hope obesity and heart disease are in-network in PA. Deny, defend, depose, diarrhea @ McDonald's," referencing the arrest and the chain’s food quality.

Customers weren’t only unhappy with the food quality but also with the level of service, with several mentioning the incident involving the employee who reportedly tipped off the authorities.

"‘Service was terrible, rats everywhere,’" wrote another reviewer, adding fuel to the fire by attaching a picture of a rat in a McDonald's fries container.

While some reviews focused on the state of the restaurants, others took a more sarcastic approach to the situation.

One user wrote, "‘The staff accused me of assassinating a CEO. Incredibly unprofessional and class-traitor staff.’"

Meanwhile, the McDonald's locations in Altoona, Iowa, were not spared from the flood of negative reviews. Branden Garcia, a reviewer of the Altoona, Iowa McDonald's at 2951 Adventureland Drive, claimed, "they got rats behind the counter. DO NOT RECOMMEND."

The once-predictable fast-food chain now finds itself at the center of an unusual social media storm as customers have taken to Google Reviews to express their frustrations about the chain’s hygiene and service, all in connection with Mangione’s shocking arrest.

McDonald's has not publicly commented on the reviews or the incident that sparked the backlash, but the volume of negative feedback suggests that the arrest is having a ripple effect on the brand’s reputation in these two towns.
