Chris Evans is making his Marvel Cinematic Universe comeback in the upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday, slated for release on May 1, 2026.

Evans will join Robert Downey Jr., who returns as Doctor Doom, in the highly anticipated sequel directed by the Russo Brothers. The nature of Evans’ role remains undisclosed, leaving fans speculating whether he’ll reprise Steve Rogers, Captain America, or another variant character.

This marks Evans’ second Marvel appearance since his exit as Steve Rogers in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. Earlier this year, he made a brief cameo in Deadpool and Wolverine as Johnny Storm, his Fantastic Four character from Fox’s Marvel adaptations.

The Russo Brothers, known for Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, will also direct Avengers: Secret Wars, the direct sequel to Doomsday. With Marvel exploring multiverse storylines, Evans’ involvement alongside Downey Jr. suggests the studio is pulling out all the stops for these sequels.

Fans have long speculated about Evans’ MCU return, and his reappearance raises questions about how Marvel will integrate his character, particularly given Steve Rogers’ storyline conclusion in Endgame. Meanwhile, Anthony Mackie continues as the current Captain America, with his next appearance in Captain America: Brave New World, releasing February 14, 2025.

Beyond Marvel, Evans’ recent work includes Pain Hustlers, Ghosted with Ana de Armas, and Red One with Dwayne Johnson, showcasing his versatility across genres. Marvel has yet to comment on Evans’ involvement, fueling further excitement for his MCU return.
