An election tribunal on Monday directed arguments to be submitted by Jan 13 on the maintainability of petitions filed by PTI leader Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and his wife Qaisra Elahi, challenging the election victory of their rival candidate, Salik Hussain, from NA-64 and PP-32 of Gujrat.
Tribunal Judge Mehmood Maqbool presided over the hearing. The petitioners argued that the ECP wrongly relied on Form-47 instead of Form-45, which they claimed represented the accurate election results.
The petitioners' counsel, Amir Saeed Rawn, contended that Qaisra Elahi had secured 172,000 votes according to Form-45 in NA-64, whereas Salik Hussain received 33,000 votes.
However, the ECP declared Hussain the winning candidate based on Form-47.
He submitted that Elahi obtained 73,000 votes in PP-32 as per Form-45, while Salik Hussain managed just 10,000 votes. However, Hussain was again declared the winner using Form-47.
The petitioners requested the tribunal to nullify the ECP notifications declaring Salik Hussain the winner in both constituencies and to acknowledge the results recorded on Form-45 as accurate.
