KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court's constitutional bench has sought a report from the interior and foreign ministries on the failure to arrest fugitives Hammad Siddiqui, Taqi Haider Shah and Khurram Nisar and their extradition from abroad.

A two-member constitutional bench headed by Justice KK Agha heard the extradition case of fugitives Hammad Siddiqui, Taqi Haider Shah and Khurram Nisar from abroad. The court expressed its anger over non-arrest of fugitives in the Baldia tragedy case.

Justice KK Agha remarked that why Hammad Siddiqui, involved in the murder of 266 people, could not be arrested and brought back to the country? He said that who is backing such a person against whom serious charges have been leveled.

He further questioned, what steps have been taken so far to block the identity cards and passport of the accused. He further remarked, "It is the incompetence of the interior ministry that fugitives are not being arrested and brought back."

The court also expressed its anger over the non-arrest of fugitive Taqi Shah, who was involved in the killing of State Life Insurance Company officer Amjad Shah, and the fugitive Khurram Nisar, who was involved in the murder of a police personnel.

The petitioner's lawyer argued that the court had ordered the repatriation of fugitive accused Taqi Haider Shah from Dubai in June 2023, on which, the court expressed surprise at the non-implementation of the court orders to repatriate the fugitive.

Assistant Advocate General Sindh Jawad Dero argued that the responsibility of repatriating the fugitive accused lies with the federal government.
