Brad Pitt films F1 movie during Abu Dhabi Grand Prix sparking fan reactions

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix not only marked the dramatic conclusion of the 2024 Formula One season but also became the stage for Brad Pitt's highly anticipated F1 movie, set for release in June 2025. The Hollywood star, who plays fictional driver Sonny Hayes, filmed pivotal scenes during the event, including a mock podium ceremony that divided fans.

While McLaren secured their first Constructors’ Championship since 1998, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc delivered a spectacular drive, gaining 16 positions to finish third despite starting at the back of the grid. Leclerc’s performance wasn’t enough to secure the title for Ferrari, who fell just 14 points short. The race also marked Carlos Sainz’s farewell to Ferrari, with the driver moving to Williams next season.

After the race, Leclerc and Sainz joined winner Lando Norris on the real podium to celebrate, but their celebration was interrupted by filming for Pitt’s movie. The Ferrari drivers participated in multiple takes, spraying champagne alongside Pitt, who donned a driver’s suit. Despite Ferrari’s narrow loss and the emotional weight of Sainz’s departure, Leclerc maintained professionalism during the shoot.

Fans were divided on social media. Some criticized the timing, arguing that the filming undermined the intensity of the race, while others found the scenes amusing. One fan quipped, "Charles, absolutely depressed after the loss, now acting for the movie. You can’t make this up."

Pitt expressed gratitude for the opportunity, stating, "F1 and the teams have been incredible, letting us embed ourselves in the race weekend. We’re creating the most authentic racing film yet."

As fans debate the spectacle, the movie promises a unique glimpse into the high-stakes world of Formula One racing.
