The metropolitan city saw a visible dip in temperature on Sunday, with the mercury plummeting by 1.3 degrees Celsius to record a minimum of 12.7°C.
The cold spell is expected to further intensify, with the temperature predicted to fall further to 10°C on Monday, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The freezing north-easterly winds originating from Balochistan have been driving the drop in temperatures, making the weather in Karachi chillier. Visibility was also affected on Sunday morning due to fog, reducing it to just three kilometres.
The PMD's Early Warning Centre has forecasted a mild cold wave across Sindh, with single-digit temperatures expected in several rural districts. Karachi is likely to see its coldest mornings on Monday and Tuesday as the cold wave persists. This cold spell is attributed to westerly winds that brought recent rains to Balochistan, now ushering freezing conditions across the province and into Karachi. Residents have been urged to brace for the chill and take necessary precautions.
