Karachi’s minimum temperature is expected to drop between 13°C and 15°C tonight, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The city recorded a low of 16.5°C in the past 24 hours, with humidity levels at 76%.

Clear skies and cooler nights are forecast for the next 24 hours, the PMD said in its latest statement, marking the arrival of the winter season in the city.

The cooler temperatures, combined with winds from the northeast blowing at 6km/h, are contributing to a slight chill in the air.

The recent dip in temperatures aligns with earlier forecasts from the Met Office, which had predicted a drop in temperature for the metropolis.

The weather is expected to remain mostly dry during the daytime, with no significant rain expected.

Karachi residents are also facing smoggy conditions, as air pollution levels have fluctuated around "very unhealthy" levels in recent weeks. The city has an AQI of 173, being ranked as sixth most polluted city in the world and fifth most polluted city in the country.

The city’s air quality has been particularly poor due to the high number of vehicles and industrial emissions, according to data from Swiss-based air quality monitoring group IQAir.

This winter, a combination of low-grade fuel emissions from factories, vehicles, and seasonal crop burning has led to a rise in air pollution.

The cooler temperatures and slow-moving winds have trapped the pollution over the city, leading to smoggy conditions.

Despite the ongoing pollution problem, there have been no major efforts to curb the air quality crisis in Karachi.
