A court staffer was arrested for allegedly selling drugs, including crystal methamphetamine (ice), to criminals brought from various jails to attend court proceedings at the district courts.
Police said the incident occurred at the judicial lockup (Bakhshi Khana) of the district sessions court.
Constable Arslan Arshad, with the legal branch, was stopped at the lockup gate by police officials stationed there. When questioned, Arshad reportedly became agitated and questioned why he was being stopped, citing his uniform as a shield against suspicion. The police, however, deemed his behaviour suspicious and insisted on searching him.
Despite his initial refusal, officers conducted a body search and discovered a plastic bag containing five grams of ice in his pant pocket. Additionally, Rs. 10,000 in cash was recovered from his possession.
The accused was immediately taken into custody, and the Islampura police were called to the scene. The confiscated substance was sent for laboratory testing to confirm its composition.
Following preliminary investigations, the Islampura police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the constable under various charges, including misuse of authority, wearing a police uniform while engaging in illegal activity, possession of drugs, and drug peddling.
