Marcela Alcazar Rodriguez, a 33-year-old Mexican actress known for her roles in short films, tragically died earlier this week after participating in a controversial spiritual cleansing ritual in Mexico.

The actress consumed a poisonous drink known as "Kambo" as part of a traditional South American ceremony, a practice believed to rid the body of toxins.

The ritual involved the application of Amazonian frog venom, which can cause severe reactions, including vomiting and diarrhoea.

Although Kambo is prohibited in several countries due to its potential dangers, indigenous communities have long used the venom for medicinal purposes.

According to reports, Marcela Alcazar Rodriguez had severe symptoms after consuming the frog venom, including vomiting and diarrhoea. She initially refused help, but later agreed when her condition worsened.

She was rushed to a Red Cross hospital, but tragically succumbed to the effects of the venom.

Witnesses claim a shaman at the retreat in Moyocoyani, Durango, informed Marcela Alcazar Rodriguez she could not leave. The shaman reportedly fled when the actress’s health deteriorated.

Local police are now investigating the shaman’s involvement in the incident.

Rodriguez's death has sparked renewed concerns over the risks associated with ancient spiritual rituals that are becoming increasingly popular in wellness circles.

A tribute was shared by Mapache Films, a production company where Marcela Alcazar Rodriguez had worked, expressing deep sorrow over her untimely death.

"With deep regret, we mourn the death of our beloved colleague and friend, Marcela Alcazar Rodriguez," the company posted on Instagram. "Her devotion, joy, and commitment left an indelible impression on all of us who had the opportunity to work alongside her."

The actress’s family, friends, and colleagues are left in mourning, and her death serves as a cautionary tale for those seeking alternative healing methods.
