A South Carolina middle school teacher has become the target of a doxing campaign after her alleged involvement in the bullying of 12-year-old Kelaia Turner, who attempted suicide in 2023.
Olivia Grace Bennett, a Social Studies teacher at Dr. Phinnize J. Fisher Middle School in Greenville, is accused of participating in the cruel treatment of Turner, which the lawsuit claims led to the girl’s severe emotional distress and suicide attempt.
The bullying case was exposed in a recent lawsuit filed by Kelaia's parents, and it quickly garnered significant attention. In the wake of the lawsuit, social media users unearthed Bennett's personal details—her home address, phone number, and email—spreading them widely across platforms.
These revelations have prompted many to call for accountability, demanding that both Bennett and the school district face consequences for their actions.
In response, Bennett posted an apology on her Instagram, saying, “I thought it was just a joke.”
According to the lawsuit, the bullying of Kelaia began in 2021 when she started wearing her natural hair to school. Fellow students began calling her derogatory names like “roach,” and mocking her appearance. The lawsuit claims that Bennett, as a teacher, not only failed to intervene but also participated in the abuse. When students would ask, “Where’s the roach?” Bennett allegedly responded, which some see as an endorsement of the bullying rather than an effort to stop it.
The situation escalated further in 2022. After Kelaia’s parents tried to move her to a different class to escape the bullying, one of the offenders allegedly intensified the verbal harassment. Rather than addressing the bully's behavior, the school suspended Kelaia after she was involved in a fight with the student.
The bullying continued, with Kelaia being subjected to a racist video—allowed by teacher John Teer—and further physical harassment when students poured water on her clothes and threw them away. Despite the ongoing abuse, the lawsuit asserts that the school failed to take meaningful action to stop it.
Feeling increasingly isolated, Kelaia attempted suicide on March 17, 2023. Her mother, Ty Turner, recalled finding her daughter unresponsive, with Kelaia having been clinically dead for eight minutes before paramedics revived her. Kelaia was left with severe brain damage and remained in a coma for weeks.
In response, Kelaia’s parents filed a lawsuit against the Greenville County School District and several faculty members, accusing them of negligence and seeking compensation for medical expenses, therapy, and the emotional toll on their family. They are demanding accountability for the systemic failure to stop the bullying, which they believe ultimately led to their daughter’s near-fatal suicide attempt.
While the district has denied the allegations and claims to have investigated the incidents thoroughly, the case has sparked widespread anger. Many are questioning why Bennett, a teacher entrusted with the care and well-being of her students, would not only allow such abuse to persist but allegedly contribute to it. The public’s outrage has only grown as more details emerge about the case.
