In a dramatic turn of events, rapper Azealia Banks has announced her intention to sue The 1975 frontman, Matty Healy, after he threatened her on social media.

The controversy unfolded on X (formerly Twitter) when Healy defended Charli XCX against Banks’ criticism, escalating to a heated exchange where he allegedly said he would "slap [her] so hard."

"Is Matty Healy in Los Angeles or London? I need to choose a territory because I've had enough of ni**as thinking my opinion is open season for them to threaten me," Banks posted, adding, "He's going to pay for every last word of it because enough is enough."

Banks further claimed that Healy’s behavior crossed the line from words to threats.

"Having something to say is one thing, but threatening me with physical violence is where the line gets drawn," she shared, alleging that Healy had also doxxed her and called her "ugly."

Healy later deleted his tweets and issued an apology both publicly and via direct messages. "Nah, I can't be saying I'm gonna hit a girl—that's insane. I'm sorry. You just can't keep being so mean about my mates and my mrs—it gets me well defensive," he wrote.

Banks responded to his apology, labeling it "pss poor reasoning" and alleging that Healy begged her not to sue him.

Sharing screenshots of their conversation, she stated, "I’m fcking tired, and people are going to learn some f**king respect." Banks also vowed to ensure her name remains attached to The 1975’s search engine optimization (SEO) for years to come.

Fans and critics alike have weighed in on the spat, with many expressing surprise at the level of hostility. Whether the legal threat will materialize remains to be seen, but the feud has undoubtedly captured public attention.
