In a bid to curb dengue in the province, the Punjab government on Tuesday announced the closure of all education institutions in Lahore for 10 days.
The number of dengue cases is increasing rapidly on a daily basis in Punjab. The decision will be effective from tomorrow (Wednesday).
According to a Punjab government spokesperson, all education institutions including private schools and colleges, will be closed for 10 days due to the widespread epidemic.
Meanwhile, the process of fumigation will be completed during these days to protect school going children.
CM to send team
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif directed the health department to send a special team to India to bring the necessary medicines to Pakistan within a week to combat dengue virus.
Sharif made this announcement while chairing a session on the disease.
He ordered that all administrative rooms in government hospitals should be converted into wards for treatment of dengue patients in Lahore.
The chief minister said that dengue awareness pamphlets should be distributed in Faisalabad and Lahore.
Sharif accused the Benazir Bhutto Hospital of not taking effective measures against the virus.
He also warned that an inquiry will be launched against any employee of the health department who shows negligence.
Yesterday, Punjab Mineral Development Corporation Secretary Ataullah Siddiqui died after contracting dengue fever at Doctors Hospital.

Why is beacon House schools in Lahore not closed?
@W: actually as you grow the platelet count decreases so a child is less likely to get degue than you
At least the Punjab government is doing things for the population. That's more that can be said for other provinces.
Do not get Indian meds and docs. Indian doctors are useless when it comes to dealing with anything besides common cold. Same applies to our medicines.
Along with medical treatment from a qualified medical doctor , try this
Treatment of dengue fever is surah Rahman from 27th parah and surah tagabun from 28th parah. Recite it near the patient, also give the water after reciting it.
Papaya leaves dip it into the water and give it to the patient.or give fresh apple juice mixed with a few lemon drops
Continue this until the patient recovers from this disease .
What about Universities??
and not the university students!!!
Hey, is their widespread epidemic? Simply control the mosquitoes. This is not at all big problem. here is the link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dengue_fever
Instead of critisizing the CM, I appreciate this effort.
@hz:
Two wrongs do not make one right!!!
Its true our leaders only wants to make money, they basically hijack our political system to do their own will to get more power and money. WE NEED TO GET SOME OTHER KIND OF SYSTEM TO CHOOSE OUR LEADER, in our country one small private organization hire there CEO or president they need at least MBA or above coalification, but to hire our president of Pakistan and there ministers. Almost no coalification? How can this possible?
@W: Most dead are grown ups. These include high ranking civil servants. Even doctors are included.
@hz: Yes ! He should have done this long time back , that is exactly what I have said , we don't need statements we need timely action!!!
What the direction to send Special team to INDIA to fetch Medicines in the days communation revelotion I think Khadim E Ala is still living in stone age
Medicines can be ordered and deliverd same day from INDIA these days, reference to be filed against Khadim E Ala for incompetent Govt and waste of money
@Mian: university students are grown up.. they will recover if they got dengue :D
atleast the CM punjab is doing something.. not sleeping like CM sindh..so many years of target killings...kya kiya usne?
he sent his orders to public private hospitals for free treatment and creating more wards for dengue...school are being closed down for some time...teams sent to other countries for dispatching sprays and medicines.. afterall he is doing something..! he is doing every possible thing he could do at present.. we should be happy that the glass is half filled..rather than crying on the rest half is empty..appreciate him ! but he should still do more for stopping this epidemic...he needed to do this long time before...
Schools closed.. Well done.. What about the universities? What about the federal and private institutes in Lahore?
offices should also be closed
Our so called leaders (political leaders) are very fond of making statements and so are our bureaucrats. But when it comes to do something solid / concrete they do nothing and if a question is asked then the person asking question is declared anti Pakistan etc etc!! Everyone in the Central Govt and Provincial Govt. knew that they will be facing DENGUE and FLOODS in 2011 and millions of $ were donated by Foreign Donors plus billions of Rupees were donated by Pakistanis but instead of using that money JUDICIOUSLY,went into pockets of some powerful & callous political leaders and once again poor people of Sind are facing the devastating floods. Similarly KHADIM-e-ALA knew that Punjab will suffer from DENGUE and whatever chemical was purchased for spraying was substandard and the money once again conveniently pocketed by the bureaucrats. Of course the POLITICAL person who was overseeing this campaign also got his share. It is very clear from the above facts that all our political leaders and bureaucrats are interested is making money in every act which has to be done to save the poor people of Pakistan.LETS GET RID OF THEM
