According to court documents, the alleged confession was recorded on a thumb drive seized from Avelli during his arrest in 2022 in Bloomington, Minnesota.

Avelli reportedly alerted authorities to the existence of the device earlier this year, shortly after Simpson's death in April. The police subsequently obtained a search warrant to investigate the thumb drive in June. However, the results of this investigation are still pending, as legal battles continue over Avelli's belongings.

While the confession's contents remain unclear, Avelli has suggested that the tape also implicates a third party in the murders. Simpson, once a beloved NFL star, was famously acquitted in 1995 of the murders following a highly publicized trial that captivated the nation.
