Water supply to several neighbourhoods of the metropolitan city has been suspended for three days as repair work begins on a damaged 84-inch diameter water line on University Road.
A few days ago, the main water pipeline burst during the ongoing development of the Red Line project near Karachi University, causing a loss of thousands of gallons of water. The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has shut down several pumps at Dhabiji and started repairs, which are expected to take 72 hours to complete.
As a result, water supply will be completely cut off in various parts of the city during this period. The affected areas include Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Mosmiyat, Safoora, several blocks of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Bahadurabad, Tariq Road, Jamshed Road, New MA Jinnah Road, Ramaswamy, Ranchore Lane, Garden, Lyari, Saddar, Lines Area, and other parts of Karachi.
A KWSC spokesperson said that the repair work will result in the loss of 150 million gallons of water per day. Residents in the affected areas are urged to use water judiciously during this period.
